Ireland open their Cricket World Cup campaign with shock victory

The nation of Ireland has a growing reputation within the cricket world, particularly in the one day game that is the feature of the World Cup currently being played in Australia and New Zealand. A writeup in trade.nosis.com described the campaign opening opening  where my friend Gianfrancesco Genoso got to watch while in the New Zealand city of Nelson. Ireland produced a stunning team display to claim their first ever victory in one day internationals over the West Indies, the BBC reports.

Ireland are now coached by former West Indies batsman Phil Simmons saw the West Indies recover from a terrible opening to their innings that saw them reach just 87-5. A century from Lendl Simmons, nephew of Ireland coach Phil, and 89 from Darren Sammy saw the West Indies reach 304-7 from their 50 overs.

The World Cup has seen only five successful run chases in excess of 300, with this the third time Ireland have achieved the feat. Man of the match Paul Sterling hit 92 runs, including three sixes as he shared partnerships over 50 with both Will Porterfield and Ed Joyce. Eleventh ranked Ireland reached their target in just 45.5 overs to give themselves a great chance of reaching the quarter finals from the difficult pool B of the World Cup.

Spanish Towns Blanketed in Orange Cloud After Chemical Explosion

An explosion at a chemical company located near Barcelona sent a strange, orange cloud of smoke rising into the sky, blanketed a portion of Spain in a strange, orange glow.

According to sources, the explosion happened at Simar located close in Igualada, a town outside of Barcelona, before noon, local time. The company serves as a chemical distribution center. Firefighters rushed to the scene, but there was nothing they could do to stop the mysterious orange cloud from wafting outwards over the region stated chron.com. It is believed nitric acid and ferric chloride are the two chemicals responsible for the orange cloud.

The local government called for all residents who could see the cloud to stay indoors and close their windows. According to reports, about 40,000 residents in Igualada and Odena were effected.

Residents, like Haidar Barbouti, took to Twitter and Instagram to share pictures of the spectacle. Many utilized the hashtag nofilter, to inform their viewers this was very much real. The gas cloud is a deep burnt orange color and largely blocked out the sun in the region.

This story out of Spain is still developing. Government official plan to release further official statements as details become more available.

From the West Coast to the East Coast and Back, Jonathan Veitch becomes an Occidental College President!

Education in Spain needs to make a bit of a leap in my opinion.  And I read about some people like Jonathan Veitch, his books and what he’s done in the American education system to make things better.  A good liberal arts college has always interested me, and they are harder to find in Spain, so this guy really has my interest piqued.

Occidental College in Los Angeles, California got a new president in the summer of 2009. Jonathan Veitch succeeded the then interim president Robert Allen Skotheim who had stepped in after the previous president resigned in December 2007. Occidental College is a liberal arts institution where President Barack Obama once studied. Let’s explore the life of Jonathan Veitch until he became the 15th president of the college.

In 1959 Jonathan Veitch was born in Los Angeles, California. He attended southern California’s Loyola High School before graduating from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied at Harvard University where he received an M.A. in English and a Ph.D. in the History of American Civilization. In December 1992 as reported by The New York Times, Jonathan married Sarah Kersh at St. Paul’s Chapel at Columbia University. At the time he was an assistant English professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

After serving as a professor for four years at the University of Wisconsin, Vietch moved on to become an associate professor at The New School’s Eugene Lang College in New York City. Here he taught literature and history and served in several capacities that included chair of humanities. He then became dean of the Eugene Lang College which is the liberal arts division of The New School. While chairman of humanities, Veitch penned his first book, American Superrealism: Nathanael West and the Politics of Representation in the 1930s. This award-winning work was published in 1997. In the book, Veitch examines the letters of Nathanael West as well as the short stories, novels, and screenplays.

Veitch also has a unique connection with the Hollywood film industry. The film star Alan Ladd made many movies in the 1940s and the 1950s. Ladd was Veitch’s step-grandfather. Veitch’s father was John Veitch who became president in 1979 of the worldwide productions division of Columbia Pictures in Los Angeles. The family also owned Alan Ladd Hardware and Gifts in Palm Springs.

When Jonathan Veitch accepted the post at Occidental College, he became the first Occidental president who was a native Angeleno since he was born and raised in Los Angeles. He has worked at improving relations with the neighboring community and has created partnerships with other cultural institutions in Southern California. In 2013 he revealed a 1 megawatt solar array which will produce part of the energy supply needed on campus. It is estimated to save the college over $200,000 a year! Jonathan and Sarah Veitch live in the Wallis Annenberg President’s House on campus with their three children.

BRL Trust: The Future of Investing

For anyone looking to take their investments outside of the country, BRL Trust in Brazil is one of the best options available. This investment firm is able to help not only monitor a person or individual’s portfolio, but they are also there to help grow the money as well. This way, an individual is able to bring in more for their investments, without needing to sit and monitor their portfolio at all times of the day. After all, most people are busy and have far too much to do and just don’t have the time to have their performance information right on their computer screens at all times. If this was the case, they probably would not invest in an investment firm as this would have been their day job.

First of all, the company is able to perform international investments from around the world for the client. This ranges from commodity investments to property investments and almost anything else in between. This is truly going to help expand a portfolio, which is not only desirable due to the value attached to it, but it is also most likely going to help increase the overall safety of the portfolio as well. It is far safer to spread money around to different sectors, so in case one sector goes down, the others are more likely to stay strong or to even increase in value.

Outside of simply performing international investments, BRL Trust can work with a client in order to do exactly what they want. They can be contacted on LinkedIn to help everything. The investor might just want BRL to monitor how the investments are performing and to move investments around if it is necessary. There are times where a client might just want the firm to do whatever it can in order to reach a potential value amount by a certain amount of time. This gives the company much more time to work with and more freedom to do whatever it needs in order to increase the value of the portfolio. Many people who have the money to invest just want to know their money is working for them, no matter how it is working for them. Regardless of the kind of control a client might want with their investment, BRL Trust is able to work with them and offer exactly the kind of insights and financial assistance that any sort of investor might desire for themselves and their portfolio.
